Stephanie Conant

Stephanie Conant is Professor of Biology in the College of Engineering & Science at University of Detroit Mercy. She earned her PhD in Immunology from Wayne State University School of Medicine and BS in Biology from Central Michigan University. Conant's research investigates cell cycle regulation in cancer development, focusing on the Cables1 protein and its role in tumor suppression.

Her laboratory employs mammalian epithelial cell cultures and siRNA technology to study protein interactions and functions relevant to tumor formation. Research applications include identifying molecular pathways for targeted cancer therapies and understanding cell cycle dysregulation in carcinogenesis.

Conant leads the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) SeaPhage program, providing authentic research experiences for introductory biology students through bacteriophage discovery and genomics. This initiative integrates research training into undergraduate curriculum.

Teaching responsibilities span immunology, anatomy and physiology, nutrition, and social issues in biology for both biology majors and nursing students. Her pedagogical approach emphasizes integrating research experiences into undergraduate education.
