Stephanie A. Smith is a Professor of Literature and Women’s Studies at the University of Florida. She holds a PhD from UC Berkeley and has been deeply influenced by her studies under Ursula K. Le Guin. Her academic work focuses on critical examinations of American literary success and its socio-cultural implications. Smith is also an acclaimed novelist, with a focus on historical and literary fiction exploring themes of identity, trauma, and cultural heritage.
Research & Awards: Her critical works include Conceived by Liberty (MLA First Book Prize nominee) and Household Words. She has received fellowships from VCCA and the Rothman Faculty Summer Grant. Her novels, such as the Warpaint Trilogy and Content Burns, blend historical fiction with contemporary issues, earning widespread acclaim and multiple awards.
Residencies & Grants: Smith has held residencies at the Noepe Center, VCCA, and Dorland. Her grants include the UF Rothman Summer Grant for her project Still Ice.
