Prof. Dr.-Ing. Stephan Völker is a Professor of Lighting Technology and Head of the Lighting Technology Department at the Technical University of Berlin's Faculty IV - Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. He serves as Vice President for Research and Appointments since 2022. His research focuses on adaptive street lighting, glare mitigation, mesopic vision, and non-visual effects of light. He has held visiting professorships at QUT Brisbane and UCL, and leadership roles in numerous national and international committees, including the CIE Technical Committees on Mesopic Vision and Discomfort Glare.
Education: Dipl.-Ing. in Electrical Engineering (1992), Habilitation in brightness and contrast perception (2006). Awards include the Deutscher Verkehrssicherheitspreis (2006) and Helwig-Preis (2000). He has advised on LED initiatives for the German Federal Ministry and contributed to over 50 publications on lighting technology and standards.
Research highlights include developing glare models for vehicle headlights, optimizing road lighting for energy efficiency and safety, and exploring light's effects on human circadian rhythms. His work integrates interdisciplinary approaches to address climate goals in transportation infrastructure.
