Dr. Clotilde Pierson is an Assistant Professor of Architectural Engineering at Oregon State University's College of Engineering, leading the radiant lab. Her work focuses on daylighting's impact on health, well-being, and energy efficiency in buildings. She holds a PhD in Engineering Sciences from Université catholique de Louvain (2019) and has held roles at Vrije Universiteit Brussel and EPFL. Her research integrates engineering, chronobiology, and architecture to address urban densification's effects on daylight access. She develops open-source tools like Lark and the HDRI Calibration Interface.
- Educations:
- PhD, Engineering Sciences and Technology, Université catholique de Louvain (2019)
- M.S. & B.S., Architectural Engineering, Université catholique de Louvain (2014/2012)
Her research interests include spectral light simulation for health outcomes, discomfort glare metrics, and window view effects. She collaborates internationally via the CIE Technical Committees and teaches courses on daylighting design and parametric engineering. Her lab's software tools emphasize accessibility for architects and researchers.
Recent publications highlight validation of spectral tools, daylight color variability, and urbanization's impact on indoor light access. She advocates for interdisciplinary approaches to harmonize building design with human and environmental needs.
Grants & Funding: Supported by Nuckolls Fund for Lighting Education and Oregon Partnership for Alzheimer's Research.
Labs/Teams: Leads the radiant lab at Oregon State University, dedicated to daylighting research and open-source software.
