معرفی
Dr. Stephan Levonis is an Associate Professor at Bond University's Faculty of Health Sciences & Medicine, where he is affiliated with the Centre for Urology Research. His research spans multiple disciplines including medicinal chemistry, biochemistry, and chemical education, with a focus on developing novel compounds for disease treatment and innovative educational technologies.
Dr. Levonis earned his PhD in Chemistry from Griffith University in 2012 and his BSc (Hons) in Chemistry, receiving the Griffith Award for Academic Excellence, also from Griffith University in 2006.
His research interests center on carbohydrate chemistry and synthetic organic chemistry and their relation to biological systems. Dr. Levonis collaborates broadly with national and international research groups from Deakin University, Yale University, and the Oregon Health and Science University. His laboratory works on diverse projects involving analytical chemistry, synthetic organic chemistry, and molecular biology with applications in drug design, bioanalysis, and neurophotonics. His team studies diseases including cancer, infectious diseases (particularly viruses), and neurological disorders.
His publication record demonstrates a strong focus on PARP enzymes, particularly PARP14, and their role in diseases including cancer and viral infections like SARS-CoV-2. He has also made significant contributions to chemical education through the development of virtual laboratory technologies and gamified learning experiences.
Dr. Levonis actively supervises research students and is accepting new PhD candidates. His laboratory works on diverse projects with national and international collaboration, providing students with opportunities to develop skills in analytical chemistry, synthetic organic chemistry, and molecular biology.
He co-leads the medicinal chemistry research group at Bond University with Dr. Stephanie Schweiker, focusing on the development of novel compounds for various diseases and chemical analysis of biological systems.
