Dr. Steffen Zschaler is a Reader in Software Engineering at King's College London's Department of Informatics, part of the Faculty of Natural, Mathematical & Engineering Sciences. He serves as Co-Lead of the DT4Health Centre for Doctoral Training and directs the MDENet expert network for Model-Driven Engineering. His roles include membership in the Computing Education Research Centre (CERC) and collaboration with the Francis Crick Institute as a Visiting Scientist.
Education & Background: Holds a PhD (summa cum laude) from TU Dresden and was a Marie-Curie Fellow at Lancaster University. Research interests focus on model-driven development, digital twins, domain-specific languages, and computing education.
Research Interests: Specializes in principled simulation methodologies, modular system design, and education tools for software engineering. His work bridges academic research with practical applications in healthcare systems and interdisciplinary collaboration. Key areas include:
- Model-Driven Engineering frameworks for complex systems
- Simulation validation and dialectic models
- Educational platforms for MDE (e.g., MDENet)
Recent Contributions: Recent work explores dialectic models for simulation studies, digital twin integration, and consistency-preserving configuration tools. His publications span conferences like Winter Simulation Conference and journals such as IEEE Transactions on Software Engineering.
Awards & Recognition: Elected to the Academy of Higher Education (AHEA) in 2011 and recipient of the Marie-Curie Fellowship (2009).
Labs & Collaborations: Leads the Software Systems (SSY) group and collaborates on initiatives like DT4Health, focusing on digital twin applications in healthcare. Active in international workshops (e.g., Model-Driven Engineering Intelligence).
