Stefano Mancini is a Professor of Theoretical Physics and Mathematical Methods at the School of Science and Technology, University of Camerino, Italy. He earned his Doctorate in Physics from the University of Perugia in 1998 and has held postdoctoral and academic positions at the University of Milan and University of Camerino. He has been instrumental in establishing quantum information and computation courses in Italy and maintains extensive international collaborations.
Research Interests: His work spans quantum information theory, open quantum systems, quantum entanglement, quantum cryptography, and information geometry. His research explores theoretical aspects of quantum channels, decoherence, entanglement characterization, and statistical models using geometric methods. He investigates quantum effects in cosmological settings and relativistic quantum information.
The trend in his recent publications (2014–2017) reflects a deep engagement with quantum information foundations, including quantum channel capacities, entanglement control, finite-key cryptography, and geometric methods in quantum state spaces. His work bridges mathematical physics, quantum engineering, and network theory, often employing information-theoretic tools to analyze physical systems.
Scientific Awards:
- Three of his papers were awarded as best papers of the year by their respective journals.
Advising and Grants: He has supervised 28 master’s/bachelor’s theses and 11 PhD theses across physics, mathematics, and computer science. He has contributed to projects funded by EU-FP6, EU-FP7, INTAS, EPSRC, FQXi, and Italian national bodies including the Ministry of Research and INFN.
Service and Leadership: He serves on the editorial board of the International Journal of Quantum Information and as a referee for over 10 international journals. He has been an invited speaker at 40 international conferences and served on the organizing and scientific committees of over 20 conferences. He has also edited 6 special journal issues and co-authored two textbooks.
