Stefania Tutino is Professor of History at UCLA with a focus on intellectual and cultural history of post-Reformation Catholicism. Her research examines relationships between conscience, law, and political thought, alongside the historical role of the Society of Jesus and Roman Inquisition. Tutino has received prestigious fellowships from NEH, American Academy in Rome, and Guggenheim Foundation.
Current projects explore Jesuit perspectives on law and authority, theological approaches to historical interpretation, and the cultural implications of Catholic moral theology. Her publications analyze early modern knowledge systems and their intersections with religious and secular power structures.
Tutino teaches courses on early modern Europe, historical methodology, and religious history. She serves as Vice Chair for Academic Personnel in UCLA's History Department and maintains interests in the philosophical foundations of historiography.
