Stefania Pontrandolfo

Stefania Pontrandolfo is an Associate Professor in the Department of Human Sciences at the University of Verona, specializing in Demoethnoanthropological Sciences (SDEA-01/A). Her academic work spans multiple ERC research sectors including Cultural Studies, Kinship and Identity Studies, and Religious Studies.

Her primary research interests focus on the intersection of anthropological theory and social practice, with particular emphasis on marginalized communities. She has conducted extensive ethnographic research on Roma groups in Southern Italy and Romanian Roma who migrated to Italy, examining cultural identity, social organization, and experiences of discrimination.

Professor Pontrandolfo's scholarly work reveals strong trends in critical anthropology of migration, with recurring themes addressing structural inequalities, cultural resilience, and policy implications for mobile populations. Her research consistently bridges theoretical frameworks with practical applications in social policy and educational contexts.

As an academic leader, she serves as Director of CREAa (Centro di Ricerche Etnografiche e di Antropologia applicata "Francesca Cappelletto") and chairs the Research Policy Committee. She has participated in numerous national and international research projects including MigRom, Net-Rom, ReDeMP, and OPREROMA, demonstrating sustained engagement with collaborative, interdisciplinary research initiatives.

Professor Pontrandolfo teaches across multiple degree programs including Master's degrees in Emergency Governance, Pedagogical Sciences, Philosophy, and the PhD program in Human Sciences. She holds a PhD in Anthropologie sociale et ethnologie from the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales (EHESS) in Paris and has built a distinguished career examining the complex interplay between cultural identity, social policy, and educational practices among marginalized populations.
