Dr. Anna-Lena Wolf is a Research Fellow and lecturer at the Institute for Social and Cultural Anthropology at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg under Prof. Olaf Zenker. Her research focuses on legal anthropology, political anthropology, and the anthropology of religion, with regional expertise in India and Italy. She holds a PhD from the University of Bern and completed postdoctoral research including a residency at the Istituto Svizzero di Roma (2023-2024) and a visiting scholar position at Jawaharlal Nehru University in Delhi. Her monograph Labor on the Line examines justice and labor reforms on Assam tea plantations, while her current habilitation project explores Catholic canon law and divine agency in the Roman Curia. She has over ten years of teaching experience in anthropology, covering theoretical frameworks, justice studies, religious law, and regional case studies.
Her research integrates themes of justice, agency, and structural inequalities, particularly addressing minority rights, caste systems, and environmental justice in the Anthropocene. She has published widely on topics such as moral economies, activism, and the intersection of law and religion, with a focus on South Asia and Italy. Her work emphasizes methodological innovation, including ethnographic approaches to divine agency and interdisciplinary analysis.
