Dr. Stefan Schubert is a Senior Lecturer in American Literature at the Department of American Studies, Leipzig University. He holds a PhD from 2018, focusing on 'narrative instability' in US popular culture. His research explores intersections of race, class, gender, and narrative theory across media, including film, TV, and video games. He has been affiliated with ASL since 2011, progressing from administrative roles to his current academic position since 2020. His postdoctoral work examines privilege in 19th-century US literature and its cultural implications. He has contributed to multiple DFG-funded projects, including 'Narrative Liminality' and 'Cultural Politics of Reconciliation.' Schubert teaches undergraduate and graduate courses on American literature, culture, and digital media, emphasizing critical analysis and textual politics. He actively engages in public outreach, managing the Picador Guest Professorship and fostering alumni connections.
Education: BA and MA in American Studies from American Studies Leipzig (ASL), PhD completed in 2018. Research interests span US popular culture, postmodernism, transmediality, and gender/class studies. He has supervised projects like Mascha Lange's Pre-Doc work and organized conferences on topics such as 'Enfreakment in North American Culture' and 'Video Games and Politics.' His publications include a monograph on narrative instability and edited volumes on American Studies and narrative theory.
