Sebastian M. Herrmann is a Professor for American Studies at the University of Regensburg (since 2021) and previously served as Assistant Professor at American Studies Leipzig (Leipzig University) from 2014 to 2021. He holds a habilitation (2020) and a PhD (2012) from Leipzig University. His academic roles include interim Chair of American Studies at Regensburg University (2021) and 'geschäftsführender Assistent' of American Studies Leipzig (2017–2018).
His research focuses on post-truth politics, the cultural work of textuality, 19th-century US 'data imaginary,' and digital humanities. Notable projects include the DFG-funded 'Narrative Liminality and American Modernities' network and the SHRIMP social hypertext platform. He has authored/edited works like Presidential Unrealities (2014) and Poetics of Politics (2015), and contributed to journals such as American Studies Journal.
Teaching emphasizes digital pedagogy, American literature/culture, and experimental formats like the graduate journal aspeers. Awards include the Theodor-Litt-Preis (2016) for teaching excellence and the Christoph-Daniel-Ebeling Fellowship (2015). He co-leads the Dresden-Leipzig Research Initiative Selbst-Bewusste Erzählungen and actively engages in academic service, including editorial roles and conference organization.
