Stefan Rabanus is a Full Professor in the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures at the University of Verona specializing in German Language, Translation and Linguistics (GERM-01/C). He serves as Director of the international Ph.D. programme in Linguistics (joint PhD Verona-Bolzano/Bozen-Marburg) and Vice Director of the PhD School of the University of Verona overseeing multiple PhD areas.
His research spans several key linguistic domains:
- Morphosyntax (syncretism, agreement [verb, pronoun], possessives, DP structures)
- Dialectology and German Language History
- German-Romance (-Slavic) Language Contact phenomena
- Digital Humanities applications including Crowdsourcing, Corpus Linguistics, and Language Mapping
Professor Rabanus directs the section "Historical dialectology and history of dialectology" of the International Association of Dialectology of German (IGDD) and co-edits the academic journal "Germanistische Linguistik" (ISSN 0072-1492).

His research group focuses on "Minority languages and language contact" with detailed interests in language change principles, language contact theory in Northern Italy, dialectology methodology, and syntactic/morphological analysis from both synchronic and diachronic perspectives.
