Stefan Pichler

Stefan Pichler is a Professor and Head of the Institute for Finance, Banking and Insurance at Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU). His research focuses on financial education, strategic capital markets, and cryptoeconomics, with a strong emphasis on credit risk management, banking regulation, and sovereign debt. He has authored numerous publications since 1991, addressing topics such as credit rating systems, non-performing loans, and market frictions.

Key areas of research include the economic value of credit ratings, systemic risk in government bonds, and Basel II capital requirements. His work often intersects regulatory frameworks and practical applications in finance. Pichler has contributed to over 49 publications and 14 projects, including influential papers on mutual fund performance and interest rate references.
