Stefan G. Hofmann is a full and tenured Professor of Psychology in the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences at Boston University, directing the Psychotherapy and Emotion Research Laboratory since 2008. He serves as president of the International Association for Cognitive Psychotherapy and editor-in-chief of Cognitive Therapy and Research.
His research spans anxiety disorders, cognitive behavioral therapy, and emotion regulation, with emphasis on experimental psychopathology and affective neuroscience. He investigates treatment mechanisms, neuroscience-clinical translation, and cultural expressions of psychopathology through interdisciplinary approaches.
Recent publications reveal a strong focus on integrating neuroimaging and network science with clinical practice, particularly for anxiety and mood disorders. His highly cited work employs meta-analytic methods and biomarker research to advance personalized treatment prediction and transdiagnostic models.
