Stefan Dietze serves as Professor of Data & Knowledge Engineering at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf (HHU) and Scientific Director of the Knowledge Technologies for the Social Sciences Department at GESIS (Leibniz Institute for the Social Sciences) in Cologne. His dual-role positions bridge computer science and social sciences through large-scale web data analysis.
His research specializes in Natural Language Processing, Information Retrieval, and Machine Learning applied to social web data. Key focus areas include online discourse investigation, statement/source classification, and modeling information diffusion in social networks. This work enables interdisciplinary social science research through computational methodologies.
At GESIS, Professor Dietze leads the Knowledge Technologies for the Social Sciences department, developing frameworks for leveraging social web data in social science contexts. Current projects include "Unknown Data" for metadata consolidation of web-sourced research data and "DiscourseData4Policy" (DD4P), which applies discourse analysis to policy formulation.
