Dr. Stayci Taylor is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Media & Communication at RMIT University, specializing in screenwriting, script development, and creative practice research. She holds a PhD in creative writing and screenwriting, combining academic rigor with industry experience as an award-winning screenwriter and script editor. Her roles include teaching, supervising HDR students, and contributing to industry initiatives like the Melbourne Web Fest.
Education: PhD in Creative Writing (screenwriting focus), completed while teaching at RMIT. Prior to academia, she trained as an actor and performed in theater, later transitioning to screenwriting in 2003. Industry roles include script development for New Zealand TV series and co-creating a primetime sitcom.
Research focuses on gender in comedy, web series, and collaborative script development. She has authored/co-authored over 35 articles and books, including co-editing Script Development: Critical Approaches, Creative Practices, International Perspectives (Palgrave Macmillan, 2021). Awards include the RMIT Prize for Research Excellence (HDR, Design) and recognition for industry contributions.
Supervision: Mentor to numerous HDR students in creative writing and screenwriting, with projects on topics like gender in TV, queer narratives, and experimental screenwriting methods.
Industry Engagement: Active in the Melbourne Web Fest, serving in roles like partnership manager and jury member. Current projects include a comedy in development with Greenstone TV and research on queer screen production in Australia.
