Stavros Papathanassiou

Stavros Papathanassiou is a Professor at the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Division of Electric Power. He leads the Electric Machines and Power Electronics Laboratory and holds senior roles in IEEE and CIGRE. His research focuses on renewable energy integration, distributed generation, and power systems engineering, with over 200 publications and 50+ research projects. He advises on grid design, energy policy, and storage solutions for high renewable penetration systems.

• Roles: CIGRE Study Committee SC6 member, Secretary of CIRED Greek Liaison, and former HTSO Executive Board member.

His research emphasizes distributed energy systems, grid resilience, and storage technologies. He has been awarded the CIGRE Technical Committee Award 2013 for contributions to distribution systems.
