Alexander Stark is an Adjunct Professor at the Medical University Vienna and a Senior Scientist at the Research Institute of Molecular Pathology (IMP) in Vienna, Austria. He leads a research group focusing on systems biology, genomics, and transcriptional regulation. His work integrates computational and experimental approaches to study enhancers, promoters, and gene regulatory networks.
Education:
- PhD in Bioinformatics (2004), EMBL & University of Köln, Germany
- Diplom in Biochemistry (2000), University of Tübingen, Germany
- Abitur (1994), Besigheim, Germany
Research Interests: Alexander Stark’s research spans systems biology, transcriptional regulation, and bioinformatics. Key areas include:
- Functional dissection of transcription factors
- Identification of regulatory elements (enhancers/promoters)
- Genome-wide analysis of RNA biology
- Applications to developmental and cancer biology
Grants & Recognition:
- ERC Consolidator Grant (€2M, 2015)
- ERC Starting Grant (€1.8M, 2010)
