- PhD in Marketing, The University of Western Australia, 2017
His research examines cultural dimensions (power distance, collectivism) in advertising receptivity, brand resilience against negative information, and technology-driven tourism experiences. Key contributions include cross-cultural analyses of offensive advertising in China and VR applications in destination marketing, often contextualized within UN Sustainable Development Goals for responsible consumption.
Recent publications (2024-2025) reveal three dominant trends: (1) Chinese consumer responses to emerging technologies (EVs, VR tourism), (2) cultural identity's role in advertising effectiveness, and (3) ESG integration in corporate branding. These works consistently bridge Western marketing theory with Eastern cultural contexts, appearing in journals like International Journal of Advertising and Computers in Human Behavior.
Awards:
- Best New Staff Award
- Excellence in Teaching Award
- Silk Road Award for International Collaboration
Dr. Yu has secured over AUD 150,000 in research grants from the National Ministry of Science and Technology, university funds, and industry partners. His current projects include cross-cultural EV branding studies and adventure tourism marketing, with active supervision of PhD candidates exploring Chinese consumer behavior and digital marketing strategies.
