معرفی
Stanley Thomas Carmichael is a Professor and Chair of Neurology, and Professor of Neurobiology at the David Geffen School of Medicine, UCLA. He co-directs the UCLA Broad Stem Cell Center and the Regenerative Medicine Theme, and holds the Frances Stark Chair in Neurology. His career spans clinical practice, laboratory research, and leadership in stroke and neurorehabilitation studies.
Education:
- BS in Biology, UCLA (1986)
- PhD in Neuroscience, Washington University School of Medicine (1993)
- MD, Washington University School of Medicine (1996)
Dr. Carmichael's research focuses on neural repair after stroke, including axonal sprouting, neural stem cell responses, and transplantation. He identified a novel brain growth program activated by stroke, age-related molecular barriers to recovery, and is developing stem cell and hydrogel therapies for clinical applications.
His 15 most recent articles emphasize stroke recovery, neural plasticity, stem cell therapy, and biotechnology in brain repair. Key trends include molecular mechanisms, animal models, and translational research for novel therapeutics.
Scientific Awards:
- Howard Hughes Medical Institute Postdoctoral Fellowship (1998–2001)
Dr. Carmichael serves as Principal Investigator on 12 NIH grants (2001–2025), including studies on pericytes, white matter repair, and neural stem cell transplantation. He is an active clinical neurologist at UCLA and collaborates with biotechnology companies and the FDA on stroke therapeutics.
