Stacey J. Lee is a Vilas Research Professor and Frederick Erickson WARF Professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s School of Education, affiliated with the Department of Educational Policy Studies and Asian American Studies. Her work focuses on education’s role in immigrant incorporation and challenges stereotypes like the 'model minority.' She holds a PhD in Anthropology of Education from the University of Pennsylvania, and master’s and bachelor’s degrees in Political Science from NYU and Vassar College.
Her research emphasizes racialization in schools, transnational immigrant experiences, and culturally sustaining pedagogies. Key books include Unraveling the Model Minority Stereotype and Up Against Whiteness. Lee’s articles analyze topics like affirmative action critiques, Black-Asian solidarity, and Hmong educational trajectories.
Her awards include the AERA Distinguished Scholar Award (2016) and Vilas Mid-Career Investigator Award (2015-2016). She advocates for immigrant youth through pedagogical innovation and ethical research practices.
