Stacey L. Williams, Ph.D. is a Professor of Psychology and Director of Women's, Gender, & Sexuality Studies at East Tennessee State University. Trained as a social-health psychologist, her work centers on the psychological and health impacts of stigmatized identities, with a particular focus on LGBTQ+ individuals and women with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS).
Education:

Research Interests:
Her research explores how systemic stigma and minority stress affect the mental and physical health of marginalized groups. She investigates both individual-level coping mechanisms and broader social determinants of health. Her work on PCOS bridges psychology, gender studies, and public health, aiming to improve healthcare outcomes for women and gender-diverse individuals.
Laboratory & Teaching:
She directs the Social Issues and Relations Laboratory (SIRL), where undergraduate and graduate students engage in hands-on research on social identity, health disparities, and stigma. In her role as Director of WGSS, she teaches feminist theory and research methods, and leads campus-wide initiatives to promote gender equity and LGBTQ+ inclusion.
Campus Leadership:
Through her dual roles, she fosters interdisciplinary collaboration and supports student development in both psychological science and gender studies. She is actively involved in organizing events, workshops, and educational programming that advance awareness and advocacy around women’s, gender, and sexuality issues.
