معرفی
Rafiatu Azumah is a Post-doctoral Research Fellow at the School of Biomedicine, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, The University of Adelaide. She conducts research under the supervision of Prof. Raymond Rodgers, focusing on the pathophysiology of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) with emphasis on its genetic and fetal origins.
Her work investigates how fetal developmental abnormalities—particularly stromal overgrowth in the ovary—may predispose individuals to PCOS later in life. Key research areas include analyzing relationships between anthropometric features at birth (such as Ponderal Index), insulin resistance, and future PCOS risk. She aims to identify neonatal biomarkers that could enable early diagnosis of PCOS susceptibility, addressing the syndrome's complex presentation in approximately 10% of reproductive-age women.
Azumah contributes to ongoing efforts at the University of Adelaide to unravel PCOS molecular mechanisms, moving beyond symptom management toward understanding developmental origins of this endocrine, metabolic, and reproductive disorder.
