David Abbott is a Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. His research focuses on reproductive endocrinology, particularly polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and female hyposexual dysfunction. He developed a nonhuman primate model for PCOS, advancing translational studies on its pathophysiology. Collaborations include work with UCLA, NIH, and international institutions, contributing to FDA approval of flibanserin (Addyi) for hypoactive sexual desire disorder.
Education: B.Sc. (1975), Ph.D. (1979) from the University of Edinburgh; postdoctoral training at UW-Madison.
Research Highlights: Pioneered PCOS models linking developmental origins to metabolic and reproductive dysfunction.
