Prof. Srirupa Roy is Professor and Chair of "State and Democracy in Modern India" at the Centre for Modern Indian Studies (CeMIS) at the University of Göttingen. Previously, she held positions at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, New York University, and Yale University.

- AB from Dartmouth College
Her research explores:
- Nationalism and state formation in postcolonial contexts
- Democratic theory and populist politics
- Identity, institutions, and visual politics
- Comparative inter-Asian studies
Recent publications focus on Hindu nationalism, secularism, and the global rise of political outsiders. She co-directed the BMBF-funded transregional network CETREN and founded ICAS:MP, with a forthcoming monograph analyzing populism's historical roots.
She leads the research group "State and Democracy in Modern India" and contributes to advisory boards for institutions like the Asia Research Institute of the National University of Singapore and the Arab Council for Social Sciences.
