Tobias Delfs

Dr. Tobias Delfs is a Research Fellow at the Leibniz Center for Modern Orient Research (ZMO) in Berlin. He is affiliated with the long-term research program Modern India in German Archives, 1706–1989 (MIDA), supported by the German Research Foundation (DFG), in collaboration with scholars from the University of Göttingen and Humboldt University Berlin.

His research examines colonial deviance through the lens of Lambert Christian Früchtenicht, a Danish-English Halle missionary to India, analyzing translocal networks in trade, seafaring, military, and colonial administration. The work is situated within transregional historical frameworks, emphasizing global entanglements and disciplinary intersections. It contributes to broader debates about colonialism's manifestations beyond traditional missionary narratives.
