His research focuses on advanced nanomaterials for renewable energy applications, particularly nanofluids for solar energy conversion systems.
Dr. Sreekumar holds a Master's degree from the National Institute of Technology Calicut (2017-2019) and a Bachelor's degree from Cochin University of Science and Technology (2012-2016).
His research expertise centers on nanofluid engineering with specific focus on MXene-based materials and carbon quantum dots. His work spans multiple critical areas including:
- Solar collector engineering and optimization
- MXene nanomaterials synthesis and characterization
- Carbon quantum dot applications in energy systems
- Hybrid nanofluid development for heat transfer enhancement
- Photovoltaic/thermal system design and analysis
- Thermo-optical property characterization of advanced materials
Sreekumar's recent publications demonstrate a strong trajectory in MXene/Carbon-dot hybrid nanofluids for solar applications, bridging fundamental materials science with practical engineering solutions. His research employs both experimental and computational methodologies to investigate energy, exergy, and environmental-economic aspects of these novel systems, with particular emphasis on direct absorption solar collectors and integrated photovoltaic/thermal technologies.
His scientific achievements include:
- Best Literature Review Award – Architecture, Built Environment & Planning (2022)
- Insc-Young Researcher Award (2020)
- Supervision of a PhD student who won the Best Literature Review Award in the Faculty (2022)
As a research supervisor, Sreekumar has successfully guided PhD students in renewable energy systems. His current activities include thermal conductivity characterization consultancy work and participation in the ICURe Engagement program focused on innovation commercialization. His doctoral thesis on 'Performance enhancement of photovoltaic/thermal system using hybrid nanofluid' was completed in January 2024, demonstrating his expertise in this specialized field.
