Spencer Zimmerman

Spencer Zimmerman is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Stony Brook University. His research focuses on turbulence dynamics, particularly in wall-bounded flows, and experimental techniques like PIV, hotwire anemometry, and interferometry. He holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Melbourne (2019) and a B.S. from the University of New Hampshire (2014). Prior to his faculty role, he conducted postdoctoral research at Johns Hopkins University (2021–2023) and the University of Melbourne (2019–2021).

His work addresses adverse pressure gradient effects, inertial sublayer properties, and high-Reynolds-number flow characterization. Research areas include turbulence kinetic energy, Reynolds stress modeling, and symmetry-induced scaling laws. He has contributed to experimental advancements in flow measurement techniques for complex fluid dynamics problems.
