Spencer Gessner is Assistant Professor of Particle Physics and Astrophysics at SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory and Stanford University. His research focuses on plasma wakefield acceleration, collider physics, and advanced particle beam technologies. He coordinates the US 10 TeV Wakefield Collider Design Study and contributes to future collider development from Higgs Factories to Energy Frontier machines.
Research encompasses experimental work at FACET-II and CERN's AWAKE experiment, developing techniques for positron acceleration and extreme electron beam generation. Recent publications demonstrate breakthroughs in beam shaping, plasma diagnostics, and collider design.
Awards include the APS DPB Outstanding Doctoral Thesis Research Award (2017) and EuroNNAc Simon van der Meer Early Career Award (2019). Dr. Gessner earned his PhD in Physics from Stanford University, with prior experience as Staff Scientist at SLAC and Fellow at CERN.
