Research Focus: Dr. Mukherjee investigates social determinants of mental health through epidemiological lenses, with signature work on trauma impacts among 9/11 responders, racial disparities in perinatal depression, and HPV vaccination barriers. His NIH-funded cognitive aging research examines how childhood adversities modify PTSD-cognition relationships in trauma-exposed populations, while campus mental health studies address bullying prevention and suicide intervention.
Publication Trends: His 14 recent publications (2013-2018) reveal three convergent streams: (1) Trauma-cognition pathways in disaster responders, (2) Structural drivers of perinatal mental health disparities, and (3) Vaccine hesitancy patterns across gender/racial lines. These reflect interdisciplinary integration of epidemiology, social psychology, and health policy analysis.
Scientific Recognition:
- Flame ChallengeTM 2018 winner for science communication
- Multiple FIU fellowships including Dissertation Year Award
- APHA Student Assembly scholarship recipient
Research Leadership: As Principal Investigator on Robert Wood Johnson Foundation proposals and Co-Investigator on NIH R01 grants (Clouston PI), he leads studies on WTC responder spouses' mental health and cognitive aging.
