Dr. Anke Witteveen is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Behavioural and Movement Sciences and the APH - Mental Health department at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. She holds a Master’s degree in Epidemiology from the VU University Medical Center. Her research focuses on mental disorders such as depression and PTSD, particularly in populations exposed to trauma or adversity, including migrants and perinatal women. She employs epidemiological and experimental methods, such as cohort studies and RCTs, to explore cognitive and neurobiological mechanisms underlying mental health issues. Key projects include the MiMoMent initiative on migrant mother-child mental health, EU Horizon projects like ADVANCE and RESPOND, and the U-RISE program aiding Ukrainian displaced populations.
Her work addresses scalable interventions to reduce mental health disparities, emphasizing early intervention and equity. Current projects also include the Amsterdam Law and Behaviour grant (PROSPER) targeting mental health in the criminal justice system and an AR&D grant examining hair cortisol and perinatal depression. Dr. Witteveen collaborates internationally, contributing to global health initiatives and UN Sustainable Development Goals. She teaches courses on clinical psychology diagnostics, child psychology, and interventions for complex psychological problems.
Her articles span pandemic mental health impacts, PTSD treatments, and migrant mental health interventions. She has supervised one PhD thesis and contributes to multidisciplinary teams like the WHO Collaborating Center. No ancillary activities are reported.
