Dr. Sossie Kasbarian is a Senior Lecturer in Politics at the University of Stirling, affiliated with the Department of Politics. She joined the university in November 2017. Previously, she held postdoctoral fellowships at the University of Edinburgh and taught at institutions including SOAS, the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies (Geneva), Lancaster University, and the American University in Cairo. She earned her doctorate from SOAS, University of London.
Her research focuses on intersections of Comparative Politics, Political Sociology, Middle East Politics, Diaspora Studies, Refugee and Migration Studies, and Armenian Studies. She leads interdisciplinary projects bridging the South Caucasus, Middle East, and Europe, examining conflict, displacement, refugeehood, migration, and diaspora dynamics. She co-edits Diaspora: A Journal of Transnational Studies (University of Toronto Press) and is authoring a monograph on The Armenian Middle East - Remnants, Resilience and Reconfigurations.
She is an active member of research groups including the Centre for Environment, Heritage and Policy (CEHP), the Centre for Policy, Conflict and Co-operation Research (CPCCR), and the Heritage Youth, Migration and Human Rights group. Her work also intersects with Gender Studies and Interpreting/Translation Studies through affiliations with CITIS (Centre for Interpreting, Translation and Intercultural Studies).
