Ulrike Ziemer is a Senior Lecturer in Sociology at the University of Winchester, Department of Social Sciences. She holds a PhD from the University of Birmingham (CREES, 2008) and was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at University College London (SSEES, 2009-2011). Her expertise spans gender, youth, migration, and diasporic citizenship in Russia, Southern Caucasus, and Eastern Europe. She teaches modules on gender/sexualities, ideology, and conflict, and leads the BA Sociology programme. In 2017, she won the Student-Led Teaching Award for her Gender and Sexualities module. She has held roles such as Faculty Postgraduate Research Students Coordinator (2018) and Visiting Research Fellow at the Aleksanteri Institute, University of Helsinki (2017).
Her research focuses on gender, migration, and diasporas with a regional focus on post-Soviet spaces. Recent projects include studies on women’s agency in Armenian political protests and cybercrime dynamics in Armenia. She has secured grants from the British Academy/Leverhulme Trust, Institute for Armenian Studies, and CEELBAS. She is a member of the British Sociological Association and BASEES.
Publications include over 20 peer-reviewed articles, two edited volumes (e.g., *Women’s Everyday Lives in War and Peace in the South Caucasus*), and book chapters on topics like Armenian diasporas and gendered conflict experiences. Her work emphasizes ethnographic methods and transnationalism.
