Dr. Sorcha MacLeod is an Associate Professor at the Center for Private Governance (CEPRI) within the Faculty of Law, University of Copenhagen. She is Principal Investigator of the €2M MERCURY project (2024-2029), examining accountability for human rights abuses by mercenaries.

Her research focuses on Private Military and Security Companies (PMSCs), mercenarism, and intersections between human rights and security governance. She has contributed extensively to debates on corporate responsibility, gendered human rights impacts, and regulatory frameworks for PMSCs.
Scientific Awards:

She advises international organizations, governments, and industry on business and human rights, and has held leadership roles in the UN Working Group on Mercenaries (2018-2024). Her grants include ERC Consolidator, NATO Science for Peace, Marie Curie Fellowship, and ESRC funding.
She is engaged in DCAF - Geneva Centre for Security Sector Governance and British Institute of International and Comparative Law, while also serving as Adjunct at Hertie School Berlin and Visiting Fellow at DCAF.
