Özlem Has is a Visiting Research Fellow at King's College London's Department of Defence Studies, affiliated with the School of Security Studies. She holds a PhD from the Department of Cross-Cultural and Regional Studies at Copenhagen University and was awarded a Carlsberg Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship. Her research focuses on state formation, political violence, necropolitics, paramilitarism, and mercenarism, with a current emphasis on private military companies (PMCs) in conflict zones such as Blackwater, Wagner Group, and SADAT.
Research interests include law and violence, plausible deniability, and accountability mechanisms. She co-organizes events like the 2024 roundtable on African agency and private military forces. She is based at Strand Campus, Room K4L.04.
