Sophie Richter-Devroe is an Associate Professor at the Department of Politics and International Relations, Doha Institute for Graduate Studies. Previously, she served as Senior Lecturer in Gender and Middle East Studies at Exeter University (UK) and remains affiliated with the European Centre for Palestine Studies. Her research focuses on everyday politics, women’s activism in the Middle East, gender dynamics in settler colonial contexts, and Palestinian refugee communities.
Key projects include an AHRC Early Career Fellowship (2014-2016) for 'Gender and Settler Colonialism: Women’s Oral Histories in the Naqab,' which documented narratives of Naqab Bedouin women, and collaborative research on Palestinian refugees in Jordan, Lebanon, and the West Bank with Dr. Ruba Salih (SOAS), supported by the Gerda Henkel Foundation. Her forthcoming monograph on Palestinian women’s political strategies won the 2012 NWSA/UI Press First Book Prize.
Professional activities include organizing the 2015 Columbia workshop on 'Representations of Indigeneity in Settler-Colonial Contexts: The Case of the Naqab Bedouin.' She has held visiting appointments at Columbia University’s Center for Palestine Studies (2015) and maintains interdisciplinary engagement across political science, gender studies, and oral history methodologies.
