Rashid Khalidi is the Edward Said Professor of Modern Arab Studies at Columbia University's Department of History. His expertise spans Middle Eastern history, Palestinian statehood struggles, US foreign policy, and colonialism. He holds a B.A. from Yale University (1970) and a D.Phil from Oxford University (1974). Previously taught at the Lebanese University, American University of Beirut, Georgetown University, and the University of Chicago. Served as President of the Middle East Studies Association (MESA) and edits the Journal of Palestine Studies.
Research focuses on Palestinian national consciousness, US-Middle East relations, and colonial legacies. Key works include *The Hundred Years’ War on Palestine* (2017), *The Iron Cage* (2006), and *Palestinian Identity* (1997). Awards include Lionel Trilling Book Award and Albert Hourani Prize.
Over 115 scholarly articles explore topics like Cold War dynamics in the Middle East, settler-colonialism, and PLO decision-making during the 1982 Lebanon War. His work consistently critiques Western imperialism and highlights Palestinian resistance narratives.
