Areej Sabbagh-Khoury is a Research Fellow affiliated with Mada al-Carmel – The Arab Center for Applied Social Research in Haifa and previously held post-doctoral roles at Brown University (2016-2017) and Columbia University (2015-2016). She completed her Ph.D. in Sociology and Anthropology at Tel Aviv University. Her work focuses on settler colonialism, citizenship, memory, and gender, particularly examining relations between leftist Zionist kibbutzim and Palestinian villagers in Northern Palestine.
Her research contributions include co-editing The Palestinians in Israel: A Guide to History, Politics, and Society (2011 and 2015 editions) and authoring articles like Palestinian Predicaments: Jewish Immigration and Refugees Repatriation. She has been recognized with prestigious awards, including the Fulbright Post-doctoral Scholar Award and the Ibrahim Abu-Lughod Fellowship.
Her interdisciplinary approach bridges historical analysis, sociopolitical dynamics, and cultural memory, contributing to critical understandings of Palestinian experiences under settler colonial frameworks. Current projects emphasize decolonial narratives and the intersection of gender and displacement in Palestinian contexts.
