Sophie Paynter is a Senior Lecturer in Physiotherapy at Monash University's Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences. She holds dual Bachelor degrees in Science and Physiotherapy, a Graduate Certificate in Health Professions Education, and is a current PhD candidate. Her clinical experience spans acute musculoskeletal care, cardiorespiratory practice, and women's health across public health systems in Melbourne, regional Victoria, and the UK.
Academically, she coordinates applied anatomy and biomechanics in Monash's Doctorate of Physiotherapy program and serves as Co-director of Curriculum for Physiotherapy Programs. She also chairs the School of Primary and Allied Health Care Education Committee. Her education philosophy emphasizes evidence-based approaches to produce work-ready graduates through effective assessment and curriculum design.
Research focuses on sustainable education practices, predicting clinical performance, student selection methodologies, and fostering self-regulated learning. She contributed to a major 2017-2018 project setting health education research priorities across Monash University faculties. Recent work examines career satisfaction among early-career physiotherapists and predictive validity of admissions criteria.
Professional memberships include the Australian and New Zealand Association for Health Professions Educators and the Australian Physiotherapy Council's Item Writing Panel (2016-2017).
