Sophie Bettex

Sophie Bettex is a Lecturer and doctoral researcher in the Technology and Governance group at ETH Zurich's Department of Humanities, Social and Political Science. She investigates data quality in law enforcement through the ERC-funded CURATE project, employing ethnographic methods to study algorithmic policing in Europe.

Holds an International BSc in Psychology from Leiden University and dual MSc in Criminology from Ghent University and Erasmus University Rotterdam. Research examines the sociotechnical dimensions of policing technologies, with fieldwork spanning law enforcement agencies, tech firms, and border control operations. Publications analyze crime data production mechanisms, human trafficking in Aruba, and e-waste governance. Collaborates with human rights organizations and law enforcement agencies.
