Dr. Sophia Geng is the James and Margaret Tseng Loe Chair for China Studies and directs the Tseng Loe Center for China Studies at Saint Vincent College. She specializes in oral history, cultural heritage, diaspora studies, and Chinese literature/culture. Her work focuses on AAPI communities and has received international acclaim for promoting Asian cultural heritage. Geng holds a PhD from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, and prior degrees from Beijing Foreign Studies University and Shandong Teachers’ University. She previously served as a China studies professor at College of Saint Benedict and Saint John’s University, where she received multiple awards for teaching and leadership.
Her research initiatives include ASIANetwork’s Mellon Foundation-funded 'AAPI Voices and Stories' digital project (2020–2024). She has held board leadership roles at ASIANetwork, including chair (2022–2023). Geng’s creative writing includes short fiction and scholarly essays, blending academic rigor with literary expression. Her recent publications explore Pearl S. Buck’s literary legacy, interfaith dialogue, and 20th-century Chinese intellectual history.
