معرفی
Sophia Aharonovich is a Sir Asher Joel Research Fellow and Honorary Research Fellow at Macquarie University's School of Natural Sciences. Her research focuses on biomarker geochemistry and paleoenvironmental reconstructions, with a strong emphasis on understanding climate change through geological records. She holds an MA in Archaeology from the University of Haifa and a BSc in Biochemical Engineering from the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology.
Research Interests:
- Climate dynamics and tectonic influences on sedimentary records
- Biomarker analysis in marine and terrestrial sediments
- Paleoenvironmental reconstruction from organic geochemistry
- Archaeological applications of environmental science, particularly in desert regions
Her work spans interdisciplinary projects such as the IODP expeditions examining climate-monsoon interactions in the Arabian Sea and the Canterbury Basin. She collaborates internationally on topics like provenance studies of turbidites and Byzantine agricultural practices in the Negev.
Projects:
- Active: Models of Climate Changes via Biomarker Geochemistry (Indus Fan, Arabian Sea)
- Completed: Miocene Biomarker Studies (IODP Expeditions 313 & 317)
Her recent publications highlight contributions to understanding mass wasting events, sea level changes, and sustainable agriculture in arid environments.
