Dr. Soon Yong Ang is a Lecturer in Accounting & Finance at the University of Stirling, UK. He holds a Ph.D. in Accounting from the University of Glasgow and is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA) and the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). Previously, he served as a lecturer in Accounting at University Tunku Abdul Rahman, Malaysia, and worked in auditing roles at Ernst & Young and multinational corporations. His research focuses on sustainable development, management control systems, and accountability practices in NGOs and non-profit organizations, particularly in the Global South. He employs ethnographic and interdisciplinary methods, drawing on social theories to analyze how postcolonial legacies and neoliberalism influence governance and accountability in sustainability contexts.
Ang has secured a £18,706.53 NERC Discipline Hopping grant for a cross-disciplinary project titled 'Engaging with One Health: Translating Perceptions Around Aquatic and Terrestrial Animal Consumption in Vietnam and China.' This project explores cultural perceptions of food systems and their implications for public health and environmental policy. He is also involved in the One Health-Stirling initiative, which bridges human, animal, and environmental health through interdisciplinary collaboration.
His research interests include postcolonial accounting studies, governance in NGOs, and the role of accounting in addressing global challenges like biodiversity loss and climate change. He actively engages with professional bodies and corporations on management control issues and has published widely on accountability frameworks, sustainable development, and auditing standards in small practices.
