Sonya Erin Munsell is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology & Sociology at Rogers State University (RSU), affiliated with the School of Arts and Sciences. She serves as faculty advisor for the RSU Chapter of NEDA Campus Warriors and the Psi Chi Honor Society. Her roles include coordinating the Tulsa NEDA Walk and leading initiatives on eating disorder awareness.
Education: Ph.D. in Educational Psychology (Oklahoma State University), M.S. (Oklahoma State), M.A. (University of Utah), and B.F.A. (Missouri State University). Her dissertation focused on multicultural teaching competence among in-service teachers.
Research interests center on multicultural education, special education, humor in online learning, and parental involvement. She has published in Computers and Education, Journal of Educational Research, and The New Educator. Her work explores topics like teacher efficacy, photovoice methods, and maternal experiences with children with disabilities.
She has won the Pixley Faculty Excellence in Education Award (2021-2022), School of Arts and Sciences Service Award (2021-2022), and an NEDA recognition for fundraising. Her students have earned awards at regional conferences and Oklahoma Research Day at the Capitol.
Munsell mentors student researchers and advises multiple campus organizations. She is active in committees like RSU’s Faculty Diversity Committee and the Oklahoma Eating Disorders Association Board.
