Dr. Marla Smith is an Associate Professor of Nursing in the Department of Health Sciences at Rogers State University (RSU). She holds a Ph.D. in Nursing Education and Research from Oklahoma City University, an M.S. and B.S. in Nursing from the same institution, and an A.A.S. in Nursing from Tulsa Junior College.

Research & Professional Focus: Dr. Smith specializes in nursing education, critical care, trauma preparedness, cross-cultural nursing practices, and public health. Her clinical background includes leadership roles in hospital administration, including Director of Nursing for Emergency Services and Transplant Programs, and Nurse Manager in Neurology and Orthopedics. She is actively involved in disaster preparedness initiatives and cross-cultural healthcare education.

Teaching & Leadership: Since 2019, she has taught Medical, Surgical, Psychiatric Nursing, and Public Health at RSU. She also co-teaches cross-cultural nursing courses at Oklahoma City University and leads student mission trips. Her leadership roles include Board Membership on the Oklahoma State Department of Health Traumatic Brain Injury Council (2005–Present) and participation in the Governor’s Task Force for Trauma and Disaster Preparedness (1995–2006).
Clinical Experience: Over three decades in clinical practice, including roles as Director of Nursing, Hospital Administrator, and Consultant for billing/reimbursement strategies. Notable contributions include developing the Chest Pain Observation Unit at St. Anthony Hospital and managing home health care agencies.
Affiliations: Member of Sigma Theta Tau International, Phi Kappa Phi, American Nurses Association, and Oklahoma Nurses Association.
