Dr. Sonya Abrego is a part-time Assistant Professor at The New School's Parsons School of Design, specializing in 20th-century American fashion history. She explores intersections between dress, popular culture, and cultural history, currently working on a book about postwar Westernwear.
Education: PhD in Decorative Arts, Design & Material Culture from Bard Graduate Center (2016). Teaching focuses on courses like 'A Cultural History of Denim' and 'Fashion & Masculinity', spanning both graduate and undergraduate levels.
Research interests include ready-to-wear, Westernwear, material culture studies, Western history, oppositional dress, and pop culture. Her writing bridges scholarly and popular audiences, including contributions to Worn Fashion Journal, Fashion Theory, and Journal of Design History.
