Dr. Sonya Abraham is an Honorary Senior Research Fellow and Clinical Senior Lecturer in Rheumatology and General Internal Medicine at the National Heart & Lung Institute, part of Imperial College London's Faculty of Medicine. She holds leadership roles in clinical trials for inflammatory arthritis and serves as the CCRN musculoskeletal industry liaison lead nationally. Her research focuses on intracellular signaling, RNA stability, and translational medicine programs in psoriatic arthritis and psoriasis. She collaborates with Professor Dorian Haskard on biomarker and drug discovery initiatives.
Dr. Abraham completed her medical training at London, Oxford, and Cambridge, followed by a Wellcome-funded PhD examining glucocorticoid effects on inflammation. She leads undergraduate rheumatology education at Imperial and mentors future academic rheumatologists through the Arthritis Research UK program. She has secured grants for patient-centric education and simulation-based training, emphasizing clinical skill development.
Her academic contributions include co-supervising PhD students whose work has garnered international recognition. She actively engages in public/patient initiatives to promote biomedical research awareness and advocates for clinical research leadership among rheumatologists.
