Dr. Mandelin's research centers on musculoskeletal ultrasonography with specialization in ultrasound-guided synovial biopsies, advancing precision diagnostics for autoimmune arthritides. His work integrates medical informatics and outcome measures to optimize rheumatoid arthritis and psoriatic arthritis management, supported by board certification in Rheumatology from the American Board of Internal Medicine.
Recent publications (2024-2025) reveal molecular mechanisms in autoimmune diseases, including granzyme K's role in complement activation, genetic drivers of autoinflammatory syndromes, and adipocyte-glucocorticoid dysregulation in inflammatory arthritis. These studies collectively advance stratified medicine approaches through the Accelerating Medicines Partnership RA/SLE Network.
Scientific Awards:
- Provider of the Year, National Psoriasis Foundation, Chicago chapter (2024)
- Outstanding Teacher Award, Department of Medicine, Feinberg School of Medicine (2013)
- Outstanding Teacher Award, Department of Medicine (2012)
Dr. Mandelin leads professional initiatives as current Chair of the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (2023-2025) and serves on Northwestern's Faculty Affairs Committee and Epic Rheumatology Steering Board. His industry advisory roles with AbbVie, Pfizer, and CVS Caremark focus on formulary development and clinical program design for rheumatic diseases.
