Sonya Abdel-Razeq, MD is an Associate Professor in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology & Reproductive Sciences at Yale School of Medicine. She serves in multiple leadership roles including Director of the Placenta Accreta Spectrum Center, Director of Obstetric Simulations, and Director of Patient Safety and Quality for Midwifery Services. Dr. Abdel-Razeq specializes in Maternal-Fetal Medicine and General Surgery, Trauma & Surgical Critical Care, providing care at multiple Yale Medicine locations including New Haven, Westport, Waterbury, and Norwalk.
Dr. Abdel-Razeq's educational background includes a BS (Hon) and BA from St. John's University (1997), MD from State University of New York at Buffalo (2001), residency at SUNY Buffalo (2005), followed by dual fellowships in Maternal-Fetal Medicine (2008) and Surgical Critical Care (2009) at Yale University.
Her research focuses on maternal and fetal inflammation, with particular interest in maternal versus fetal inflammatory properties, assessment of intraabdominal fluid composition and renal predictive biomarkers, and free radical formation in sepsis conditions from a fetal perspective. Her work spans critical areas including Fetal Distress, Multiple Organ Failure, Pregnancy Complications, Sepsis, Shock, and Systemic Inflammatory Response Syndrome. Dr. Abdel-Razeq maintains an active research profile with publications spanning from 2018 to 2024, demonstrating consistent contributions to maternal-fetal medicine and critical care obstetrics.
